This act gives collectors, collection agencies and collection attorneys strict guidelines for collecting debts. Many states have their own set of laws and it is a good idea to become familiar with the credit card law in your state.

Stop Collector Calls

There are laws that govern when a collector can call your home. This is defined by the Fair Debt Act or by the debt collection law in your state. Laws for collectors give them stringent guidelines such as they cannot call after a certain time in the evening or before a certain time in the morning.

The Fair Debt Act states that collectors cannot use deceptive means to collect debts. This means that they cannot tell you they are with the government (federal, state or local) when they are not.
