You see the ads that claim you can get a debt elimination grant from the government and become debt-free. You may find yourself scratching your head, wondering if the claims are legitimate.

Well, technically, they are valid claims, but the eye catching phrasing of the slick advertising is leaving out a few steps.

While there are many government grants that are available, a specifically labeled debt elimination grant is not.

There is, however, a way that you can use a government grant to pay off your debts. And, yes, it is legal. It is not necessarily easy and certainly not a quick fix, but it is legal.

For instance, a company that is interested in helping children living in poverty, they would be interested in funding projects that are aimed at helping children living in poverty. It is that simple.

It is highly unlikely, though, that a company holds any type of interest in funding your personal debt elimination. Many companies, though, would be quite interested in helping you get your business off the ground. If you pursue that direction and are smart about it, you could come out on top.

When you apply for a grant, you will usually be required to present specific paperwork and documentation. For instance, if you are applying for a business grant, you will probably have to show a proficiency in business, either through education or experience. You will likely also be required to present a business plan.

There are several agencies that provide assistance in these areas. You can check with your Chamber of Commerce for information and assistance. They often have people available to help people who wish to start a business.

You won't find a grant anywhere in there, but if you use your grant money wisely and ethically, you can use the funds generated from the labors of your grant to pay bills.

The money you earn from your business is your personal money, so if you want to use that money for personal debts, that is your business.
